History and Philosophy
I. Club History
St. Louis Volleyball Club was founded in 1987. Each season the Club plans
to have at least 7 girls teams, one team per age group from 12U to 18U serving
approximately 70 St. Louis area youth volleyball players and their families.
St. Louis VBC continues to attract talented coaches from the metropolitan
area including coaches with USAV, high school and college experience. As
a result of their guidance and commitment, the club has produced silver and
bronze medalists at the AAU Junior Olympic, regional qualifiers for the USAV
National Junior Olympic and All-American recognition for many talented athletes.
The nationally competitive level of play demonstrated by St. Louis VBC teams
at regional, invitational and national tournaments has earned the club a
level of respect and helps to promote participation in the metro area.
II. Club Philosophy
St. Louis Volleyball Club has made a conscientious effort to teach our players
sportsmanship, citizenship, scholarship, teamwork and family lifetime values
both on the court and off. We attribute our success and respect directly
to a basic club philosophy of player development in the basic skills of the
sport in the younger ages, always seeking top competition. As a player progresses
with age and the club, we offer an increasingly competitive and learning
environment that aids in the further skill development and exposure to the
college level. The goal at each age group is to develop a team capable of
competing at the USAV Junior Nationals.
The club plans to make use of practice concepts which allow multi-team interaction
and multi-coach input for each player. We intend to develop a true club
atmosphere, with input and support coming from many sources.
Each team is headed by a coaching staff, which is assisted by a parent manager
and parent treasurer. The manager will handle paperwork and travel arrangements
for the team and will coordinate as necessary with the Club Secretary and
Director. The treasurer will handle the team’s financial transactions and
reporting to the Club Treasurer and Director.
